Ed selects Capgemini to design, build and implement a new solution revolutionizing the management and handling of cash

Ed is the hard discount grocery store segment of Carrefour in France. In late 2008, Ed launched a new initiative aimed at increasing visibility on its money flow between store tills, carriers and banks as well as providing a more secure money environment for customers and staff.
Capgemini was asked to provide Ed with an understanding of existing market solutions for money and safe box transfer and safety, help determine the best solution available for them and finally, determine the best way to implement the solution within budget and a limited time frame. The team assembled from both companies designed and built a solution named “FLEX”, based on Rich Internet Application (RIA) and Java technology. It allowed a thin client flash application to be installed on each till. Maintenance can be done remotely, eliminating any disruption of store activities.
A successful pilot phase was carried out with selected stores in the Paris region. Next, all 950 Ed stores in France will be progressively rolled out, with Capgemini providing as needed but minimal support.
